If you like Cotes du Rhone style wines, then you'll love this one for both the flavor and price point, about half of what you would have to pay for a comparable French Cotes du Rhone. Joao Paul Gouveia is the dynamic viticulturist partnered with the Wine and Vines consulting team that work with many producers throughout Dao. Pedra Cancela is his familys vineyard, sited on slopes above the Dao river.

An equal blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) yields aromas of cigar box, earth, fig, dried fruit, and blackberry. Black pepper and dusty brambles compliment the fruit flavors of sour cherry, blackberry and plum, with earthy, fine-grained tannins that hit on the finish. While the flavors might be intense, it is actually fairly lithe on the tongue and light to medium bodied.
